Lil’ Stinka doesn’t fear falling.

She keeps moving.

Old Wood. New Trouble.

She rides her skateboard on a piece of reclaimed Taiwanese cypress from an old house — a new character on a piece of Taiwan’s past.

The original wood grain, marks and aged surface remain visible beneath the painting.

This work was painted directly onto reclaimed cypress wood from an old Taiwanese house.

I chose not to hide the existing grain, marks and traces of time.

The wood had already lived another life.

Lil’ Stinka simply became part of it.

A little wild.
A little stubborn.
Not afraid of a fall.

She can fall hard and still get back up.

Graffiti, skateboarding, local folk traditions and childhood memories have always found their way into my work.

I don’t try to make a literal representation of Taiwan.

These are simply things I grew up seeing, feeling and carrying into my work.

Falling is part of riding.

So is getting back up.

She falls. She gets back up. She keeps moving.

The bull-head motif, red-and-white details and skateboard bring different parts of Taiwanese visual culture into the same frame.

They are not symbols added simply to represent Taiwan.

They are fragments of a visual language that has been around me for years.

A street character painted onto a material that has already lived another life.
